Doncaster Royal Infirmary – I know the Royal bit makes it sound pretty swish but my Doncaster brethren shall confirm its not all that Regal.
3- What is your favorite piece of gear and why?
My 1946 Gibson J-45 or Dolly as she is named. I often say you have to name a thing to really love it and well I love that thing. I don’t have kids but I’m sure they would be second fiddle if I did (sorry kids..?!?)
4- What are your musical influences?
My first loves in music were really absorbed from my father. He has some real old records of Pink Floyd, Rainbow, Deep Purple etc; and then more popular LP’s like ELO, Meat Loaf & Fleetwood Mac. I remember finding the cover artwork fascinating. I gained a real love for Pink Floyd through those years and toward the end of the 80’s start of the 90’s I took to Dire Straits very strongly. I didn’t realise at the time but I think Knoffler put the vague glimmer of Americana/Country into my brain. It wasn’t till I was 22 or 23 that I really began down the path of Americana. It was really my good friend Harry who got me listening to that sound. He gave me a couple of mix CD’s he’d cooked up with the likes of Cash, Young and Creedence on but the one that grabbed me ultimately was The Vigilantes of Love, songs like “Nothing Like a Train”, “Resplendent”, “Solar System”, “Double Cure”, and on and on. Such well crafted lyrics with an Americana sound leaning to country but keeping an identity of its time. It’s there I started to take lyric writing seriously.
In recent times I’m always looking for new inspiration, another great song. I listen to a lot of new music and love when I find a treasure. The most recent being American Aquarium.. Oh my those boys are tremendous… Hmmm.. It occurs to me I’ve not really answered the question!
Answer: Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, The Vigilantes of Love, Jonny Cash, Neil Young, The Band, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Drive By Truckers – Jason Isbell, American Aquarium… and so on!
5- What is your favorite album?
Am I only allowed one?? This is ridicules!!
Given the above I’m going to go with Vigilantes of Love – Audible Sigh. Get it love it thank me later.
6- what's your musical guilty pleasure?
Matchbox 20.. Loved them since the 90’s and Rob Thomas was my first singing inspiration. (I believe the point of this question is the “don’t judge me” is implied?)
7- The one object you would save in a house fire?
Dolly… No doubt!! Let the Records melt, the TV explode, reduce my Fender Blues Junior to ash…. (I told you she was my baby!)
8- What's your favorite Fargo song to play?
The new one! (Artists Flaw!) If you push me Drinking Game is fun right now
9- Funniest/weirdest moment on stage?
I fear you have this twice already but for weird its hard to beat YNOT and the Telly Tubbies, Bananas in Pajamas and all the other crazies. That was a weird show. I thought I’d got spiked. We need more fancy dress at Fargo Shows I think? My nephew asking his lass to marry him on stage in Shotgun Wedding was pretty weird and deserves a mention. Who Does that?? And to a song about marrying your knocked up girlfriend. My family be strange man!
10- Chocolate or Kebab? Beer or Wine?
Kebab and Beer… Come on seriously that’s like the cake or death question.
